As of May 18, this year, you can choose between average bicycle style and Flavio Deslandes eye-catching bamboo bicycles. This is when the Brazilian industrial designer will launch his first collection of hand-built bicycles.

The bicycle frame is built with bamboo. By biking bamboo you are reducing your carbon footprint and contributing to a “healthier” world. But you are not only making a statement, you're also improving your ride comfort thanks to bamboo's flexible yet rigid capabilities.

A unique material
From ancient times man has used Bamboo for construction of houses, furniture, fences, mats as well as objects of decorative and personal use - and also as a source of food. Bamboo is attracting more and more interest of researches that are revealing new and important uses from bamboo.
Flavio says: "Bamboo is nature's own organic tube structure. I have always believed that this fine material has a great potential. The challenge to make it work has kept me going. My motivation was always the opportunity to connect modern design with natural materials. The idea to make this connection in a bicycle is logical if you think about it: Biking is a very energy effective way of transportation. And combining a sustainable material as bamboo with energy free mobility feels quite right."
A meeting with Danish bicycle culture
When Flavio Deslandes - the Brazilian designer behind the Danish design company of the same name - moved to Copenhagen, Denmark in year 2000 he experienced a whole new world of bicycles and biking culture. Since then Flavio has been working for several companies in the bicycle industry - with mechanics, frame building, product development and design. And he has been building bikes and bamboo bikes for private clients.
Now Flavio Deslandes is ready to share his world of bamboo bicycles with others. A Deslandes bicycle can be acquired from EUR 3800.
The hand-built bicycles can be ordered directly from the website www.flaviodeslandes.com and from next year in selected stores.
